SOMMARHUS RATU • 2013
A small project of Ratu, a few mil north of Umeå and a stone’s throw from the historic Ratan, where the last battle on Swedish soil were. A summer cottage by the Västerbotten coast needed to be complemented with a guest house to accommodate family and friends. The original building was an old hay barn that has been moved from ÅNÄSET. Now it is decorated with two small bedrooms, bathroom, living room with glass partition and a breakfast Sim porch facing the sea. Inside, the old timbers are still visible, with traces of both spruce bark beetles and farmhands who carved names and dates in the stock yards. The floor comes from an old, now demolished Västerbotten Farm in Roback, and consists of carefully fitted planks from the centuries-old pine harvested in the 1800s.
